Prologue
Am I really a Christian?
It is a strange question for an experienced ordained minister.
I am not a "believer", in that do not give assent to any set formula.
I try to avoid the worship of Christ and instead try to follow Jesus.
Today, instead of ordering life around the axis of sin and salvation,
people search for meaning in a world that often seems meaningless.
We are looking for a teacher not a saviour.
There is a mass of refugees from organised religion, who can not return
until the church commits itself to intellectual honesty.
We are called to ask "what was Jesus before he became "Christ",
but the bulk of the clergy ignore, reject, biblical scholarship.
We can see two pathways
We are on a way of nuclear violence and climatic dissolution.
One that supports nation states and closed religious systems;
that says "I am - and I am entitled".
We need to turn to the path of Jesus that says:
I come to served not to be served.
That says "come die with me".
We have a sacred story that has been stolen from us.
